An Eye on A.I.

As with any new technology, the excitement of advancement tends to override the need for exploration of the lasting implications. 

This particularly holds true when it comes to artificial intelligence. I was struck by this recent presentation from the Center for Humane Technology called The A.I. Dilemma. A former executive client sent it to me, noting the importance of sharing this commentary with other senior leaders — and I’d have to agree. 

How to implement emerging technologies into business operations is always a major focus for leaders within the C-Suite. 

With that in mind, we understandably are so enamored with the gifts, efficiencies and break-throughs A.I. could bring across industries that the shine can easily blind us from the security and safety risks this technology could pose in the future. 

This topic has definitely made the headlines over the past few weeks, underscored by a recent controversial letter from leading tech experts urging labs to pause development as they work toward the world’s most advanced systems. It’s all in an effort to make sure we understand all of the risks and establish protections before AI becomes an unwieldy tool we can no longer control.
